MATURE STUDENT

Choosing to return to school can be a life-changing decision for many, whether it’s been one year since you have graduated or a decade.

There are significant challenges posed to adults who decide to pursue education. The good news is these challenges are recognized by Brightminds.

We are making learning more accessible for everyone and consequently offering more flexible options for mature students.

Ultimately, adult learners face a very unique set of challenges when deciding to enter or re-enter the educational sphere. Three of the biggest challenges facing adult learners are balancing school and life, accessibility and costs:

1. School and Life Responsibilities-The Balancing Act

As any postsecondary student can attest, school is a huge time commitment. There is time spent in class, time spent preparing for class and then the time needed for essays, assignments and other homework. Above and beyond school commitments, adults who are returning to school face additional demands on their time.

Many adult learners are pursuing their education while still working full time. Many also have families and family obligations. This means  less time available for school-related activities. These additional responsibilities can lead to stress and frustration for adult learners. At Brightminds, our content is available anytime and anywhere online. You have access to the teacher via email. And not to mention, you are able to work at your own pace.

2. Accessibility

A second challenge most mature students face is the accessibility to their classes. Sometimes getting to class is the biggest challenge! This can lead to difficulty succeeding at school, that’s why many of mature students decide to complete their OSSD with us.

3. Cost

The cost of education can be challenging for anyone. Tuition costs, books, supplies — it all adds up.

Adult learners often do not qualify for student loans, which makes paying for an education difficult. That’s why all the resources needed for the course is covered within the tuition fees.

4. Experience and exposure.

The technology that adults are exposed to varies extensively, and can be very diverse. When it comes to an adult learner starting to study again, will they have the experience to just pick up an online course or resource and just slip straight into it? Not being exposed to what is common technology today, that we may take for granted, can have an impact on adult learners. Our platform makes it very easy for mature students to navigate through the course. We also have video guides online for students to follow.
