Cooperative Education allows students to apply classroom learning in a real workplace setting. Students develop workplace skills, knowledge, and an understanding of health, safety, rights, and responsibilities.
The curriculum expectations focus on:
Workplace Learning: Understanding workplace health, safety, legislation, and potential hazards.
Skill Development: Applying, refining, and extending skills and knowledge from the related course.
Individual Learning: Developing a learning plan that reflects the student’s specific placement, course, and workplace experiences.
Students may take Cooperative Education more than once, with each placement connected to a different related course and tailored to the specific workplace experience.
Students are evaluated throughout their Cooperative Education placement based on their achievement of the course curriculum expectations.
Evaluation may include:
Student learning and performance at the workplace
Application of skills and knowledge from the related course
Workplace safety, responsibility, and professionalism
Progress toward the goals outlined in the Student’s Cooperative Education Learning Plan
Feedback from the teacher and workplace supervisor
Students receive ongoing feedback to help them reflect on their learning, improve their workplace skills, and demonstrate achievement of the Cooperative Education expectations.
